About the Program

We take care of everything! - visas, travel, insurance, continuous support

CooksThe Resort America program is a unique form of cultural exchange. Resort America provides a comprehensive package for participants that includes:

  • One way international flight
  • Pre-departure and/or arrival orientation sessions
  • Support throughout the season, including 24-hour emergency service
  • Comprehensive medical insurance coverage while in the United States to a limit of $500,000 per accident or illness for each participant. Baggage insurance is optional.
  • J-1 visa arrangements

Participants come from Eastern and Western Europe. Although exact dates of availability vary, participants normally arrive mid to late June and work for at least 12 weeks with an optional extension. As J-1 visa participants, they are legally permitted to work in the U.S. for up to four months. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) typically allows participants an additional one month “grace period” exclusively for travel and sightseeing.

Program Information
Fifty percent of the total invoice due to Resort America is payable June 1 and the remaining balance is due on August 1.

• Because Resort America makes substantial payments for transportation, orientation and other costs in advance of arrival, it is necessary to assess a finance charge of 1.5% per month for delinquent payments.

• For staff hired and subsequently released without valid substantiation before arrival, a cancellation fee of $400 will be charged.

• The Resort America program assumes a 40-hour work week and does not include overtime. We have been advised that the various services provided to participants including room, board and pocket money conform to federal minimum wage requirements.

• After the 12-week period, participants may work up to an additional four weeks, visa permitting. You are free to negotiate compensation independently with participants; however, they must be compensated in the same manner as your American staff. The minimum compensation after 12 weeks is $200 per week in pocket money plus room and board.

• Once participants have completed their commitment to you, they are free to travel and see the U.S. Under the terms of their visa, participants must return home within five months of their date of arrival.
