After I graduated from UConn, I worked as a live-in chambermaid for a B&B on Cape Cod. I worked with Helen, an Irish student working on a J-1 visa. Neither one of us had a car but we made friends fast and had a blast! Here I am, more than 10 years later, placing students just like Helen at resorts!

But that is just one experience that has influenced me to work on the Camp America and Resort America programs.

My mother’s journey to America has helped me appreciate the transition your students make to life at your resort. During the Vietnam War, my American father was stationed at Clark Air Base, Philippine Islands. When the war ended, my father returned to America. My mother, pregnant with my brother, had to decide whether to stay in her home country and raise two children without their father or leave everything she knew behind. She made the right decision by coming to America but had many obstacles to overcome. Over the years she made new friends, learned how to cook American dishes and taught herself English by gathering different work experiences – all while raising three children in this new culture.

Living in a bi-cultural household helped fuel my desire to work in the fast-paced world of charity, hospitality and professional sporting events. (Before I came to work at Resort America, I worked as the Assistant to the Tournament Director of the US Open Tennis Championships.) I have developed a career out of enhancing the experiences of those customers who attended these events! Seasonal international staffing is an event in itself. You want a positive, safe and successful season with capable workers. Your students want to make friends of a lifetime, improve their English, see America and go back home with great stories to tell!

I am excited to help you and your staff achieve these goals through the dynamic world of cultural exchange.
